FRIDAY FEATURED BEARD - Darrell "Dimebag" Abbott (215)

Today a we have a beard which came all the way from The Lone Star State, Texas. A beard so mighty that it was red for years and years and became a well known feature in this very beard. Unforuntatly this beard left us in 2004, but I have a feeling that it won't be forgotten for a very long time.

He's a personal hero of mine in the guitar playing world, Mr. Darrell Dimebag Abbott.

Of course, if you're aware of Dimebag himself you'll know of his bands that he has been a part of such as Pantera and Damage Plan. He started Pantera with his brother back in the 80s, the band trashed on supporting bands such as AC/DC, Metallica and Venom. Although they didn't see eye to eye with a lot of bands, or in fact with each other. After several years of lead singer Phil Anselmos rampant drug abuse, he left the band to start another project. Pantera never formally broke up. After that Dimebag and his brother formed Damage Plan, they released one album but unfortunately Dimebag was shot at a Damage Plan show in 2004.

This is a bit of a curve ball beard for me, you know how I feel about white beards, but a red beard is a totally different matter. This guy loved his beard so much he threw some red on there so everyone for miles could see it. But it wasn't always red. There was a time when Dimebag's beard was just a beard, not that their is anything wrong with a colourless beard, at all. Back in the early Pantera days Dimebag held a wonder extended patch. Infact the black and white picture showing this is a screenshot from one of my all time favourite live videos of Pantera, called Domination. That was one of my first memories of Pantera, other than hearing Cowboys From Hell, but the guitar solo in that video still blows my mind to this day, unreal!

In Dimebags later life the beard became more and more fuller and thicker, and of course more red. It is definatly a trademark of Dimebag, his squealing guitar solos and his red beard will be something I will always remember him by.
